Did you know that estate executors and administrators now have a less costly alternative to the traditional newspaper advertisements for creditors? 

In December 2020, NoticeConnect was recognized as an approved method to provide notice to claimants and advertise for creditors in Saskatchewan in s. 8 of The Administration of Estates Regulations, 2020 (Regulations).  At that time, s. 8 required that the notice to claimants be published on NoticeConnect for 30 days in addition to either publishing once a week for two successive weeks in a newspaper published nearest to the last residence of the deceased or in any other newspaper designated by a judge on an application made without notice by the executor or administrator.  However, effective March 26, 2021, this section of the Regulations was amended by The Administration of Estates Amendment Regulations, 2021, to strike out “and” after clause (a) and substitute “or”; the result being that an executor or administrator of an estate may either publish notice to claimants in a newspaper once a week for two successive weeks or on NoticeConnect for 30 days.

If an executor or administrator chooses to publish a Notice to Creditors on NoticeConnect, this notice is published once in a public and searchable database.  This notice is sent to print and digital mailing list subscribers and creditors across the country.  The notice is also shared on social media.  When posting a notice on NoticeConnect, an expiry date by which a creditor must bring forward outstanding claims can be selected.  Unless an individual chooses to have the notice removed, it will remain on the NoticeConnect website.
