Joseph Gill Coaches University of Saskatchewan Bowman Tax Moot Team in Toronto

March 9, 2017

Saskatoon Associate, Joseph A. Gill, along with co-coach, Brooke Sittler of the Federal Department of Justice, recently returned from coaching the University of Saskatchewan’s team at the Donald G.H. Bowman Tax Moot held in Toronto March 3-4, 2017.  The team was comprised of Firuz Rahimi, Adam Unick, Harrison Clark, Jon Milani, and Shauna Shewchuk and was the University of Saskatchewan’s second appearance at the national tax moot. The team competed against 9 other law schools from across Canada and wrestled with the timely issue of third-party advisor penalties under the Income Tax Act (Canada). The team was given the opportunity to argue in front of Justices of the Tax Court of Canada and Federal Court of Appeal as well as distinguished members of the Canadian tax community. Other members of the McKercher LLP team that volunteered by serving on practice panels for the mooters included partners Michelle J. Ouellette, QC and George Green. Thank you for your participation, Team Saskatchewan!
