McKercher LLP is pleased to announce that James T. Sproule, K.C. is one of the four members of the Law Society of Saskatchewan to be honoured with the designation of King’s Counsel on January 26, 2024.

“These are outstanding lawyers who have made significant contributions to the legal profession in Saskatchewan,” Justice Minister and Attorney General Bronwyn Eyre said. “Within their different areas of practice and expertise, each is eminently-deserving of this designation.”

James T. Sproule, K.C. is a partner in the Firm’s Saskatoon office, with a practice focusing on corporate governance, commercial real estate and financing, natural resources law and land development law. James was admitted to the bar 30 years ago, in 1994.

In his words, ‘I’m honoured to have received the King’s Counsel designation and note that I am in good company with the co-recipients who received their designations last Friday.  Saskatchewan has an extensive history of worthy appointments to the K.C. designation and I’m happy to be included with them at this time.’

King’s Counsel is a honourary designation awarded to those recommended from a selection committee consisting of Saskatchewan’s Justice Minister and Attorney General, the Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan or Chief Justice of the Court of King’s Bench, and past presidents of the Saskatchewan branch of the Canadian Bar Association and Law Society of Saskatchewan. To be eligible for a K.C. appointment, individuals must live in Saskatchewan and have practiced law for at least ten years in the superior courts of any province or territory of Canada, the United Kingdom, or Ireland.
