Spring is not only the time to get your house and backyard in order for the summer, it is the season to address some annual family law matters, including income tax deductions, child support reviews and summer parenting.

Summer Parenting

The springtime is the best time to finalize a parenting schedule for the school summer holidays.  If there is disagreement between yourself and the other parent as to how you will parent your children during the months of July and August, or a dispute about extended holidays during those months, it is best to try to resolve those by the end of May beginning of June, so there is no uncertainty on this issue come the end of school.  If you are unable to agree on summer parenting, or you anticipate issues confirming a parenting schedule, you should discuss this matter with counsel at the earliest opportunity.  Depending on where you are in the litigation process, it can take at minimum three weeks to have an application brought before the court.  Even then, there is no timeline for when a judge may render a decision on the matter.  The Court does try to address immediate concerns promptly, but it is best to give yourself enough time to have the materials prepared, served and heard by the court well in advance of the end of the school year.
